United Airlines Plans Lie-Flat Economy Seats Starting 2027 with New Relax Row Option!
United Airlines is set to revolutionize the Economy experience with the introduction of United Relax Row, a lie-flat seating option launching in 2027. This innovative product features a dedicated set of three seats equipped with adjustable leg rests that tilt to a 90-degree angle, creating a seamless, mattress-like platform for passengers. Positioned between standard Economy and Premium Plus, this offering provides a horizontal sleeping solution for long-haul travelers who desire Business Class comfort without the premium price tag. The airline has secured North American exclusivity for this design, which will initially debut on Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 widebody aircraft across the Atlantic and Pacific.
Targeting families, couples, and solo travelers, the Relax Row package includes premium amenities such as a custom mattress pad, plush bedding, and Sesame Street travel kits for children. United Airlines Executive Vice President Andrew Nocella emphasized that the initiative aims to provide more space and comfort on red-eye routes, including those serving Australia. This rollout is part of a massive fleet overhaul involving the acquisition of Airbus A321neo, Airbus A321XLR, and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. While inspired by Air New Zealand’s Skycouch, United aims to secure brand loyalty by effectively bridging the gap between luxury and budget travel.
