Speaking in an interview on Fox News with hosts Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino, Johnson said Republican policies have helped lower inflation and improve economic growth.
Johnson claimed that large government spending pushed inflation to its highest levels in four decades, raising prices for consumers across the country. According to him, the situation began to improve after Republicans took control of Congress and the White House. He said their priorities included cutting taxes, reducing inflation, and strengthening economic growth. The House speaker pointed to recent economic indicators that he believes support those claims, including declining inflation, lower gas prices, and economic growth exceeding five percent. Johnson argued that these results demonstrate the effectiveness of Republican policies and predicted that voters would recognize those efforts in the upcoming midterm elections.
Johnson also criticized Democratic calls to defund or abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He said the agency plays a critical role in enforcing immigration law and protecting public safety. Johnson accused Democrats of undermining law enforcement and said ICE must be allowed to carry out its duties. Finally, Johnson addressed criticism from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez regarding the proposed Stop Insider Trading Act. Johnson argued that the legislation would ban members of Congress from trading stocks and help restore public trust in government.
