Jasmine Crockett One Step Closer to Being Redistricted Out of Office

A “political earthquake” is underway in **Texas** as **Republicans** push a sweeping mid-decade **redistricting** plan targeting five **Democratic**-held **U.S. House** districts. The proposal could entirely eliminate the seat of first-term Rep. **Jasmine Crockett** (TX), leaving her outside her current **30th Congressional District**. **Crockett** has vehemently opposed the plan, criticizing it as a “hot mess” and accusing **Republicans** of racial targeting and attempting a “power grab” to “cheat” and suppress votes, particularly impacting **Black Democrats**.

Despite strong **Democratic** protests and walkouts, the **Republican**-controlled **Texas Senate** passed the controversial map. However, its progress in the **Texas House** is currently frozen, as over 60 **House Democrats** have fled the state to prevent a **quorum**. **Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick** supports the map, while **Gov. Greg Abbott** has pledged to call repeated **special sessions** until the legislation is enacted. For **Crockett**, the implications are severe: she may need to relocate, compete in a new district, or face a primary against another incumbent.
